The acoustic trio Helicon made their debut recording live in concert before an enthusiastic hometown audience at the now-defunct Ethel’s Place in Baltimore on September 6, 1987. The group’s primary focus at the time was Celtic traditions, and there are jigs, reels and O’Carolan harp tunes aplenty here, but even this early on Helicon was hinting at the wider range they would go on to explore with the hauntingly beautiful Chilean lament “La Partida.”
